“when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.”

Solomon turns to very familiar pictures from nature to show the utter devastation caused by a life ignoring God’s Wisdom. We see a rapidly moving and sudden storm that sweeps violently through the land causing devastation that is impossible to avoid or overcome. That is what he wants us to realize awaits those who ignore or mock God’s Wisdom which for us is Jesus. It is a heart wrenching picture especially when we witness it in the lives of those we know and love. Too often I have seen this truth become reality in lives I’m connected to or close to. This verse also applies to the destruction of a nation that ignores God and isn’t walking in His Wisdom. The Israel nation was prone to that behavior. Jesus also draws a picture of this person and contrasts it with the life that embraces His wisdom and truth. In Matthew chapter 7 He talks about the wise being those who build a house on the rock, which is His words, surviving the storms of life. Those who don’t live by His words are those who build on sand and are destroyed by life’s storms. The storms will surely come. The challenges is to live in such a way that we are prepared to survive them. Today build your foundation well. #BeTheEdge

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Jesus
