**Pride vs. humility.** Now there’s a battle for the ages. Not only do we see people and causes square off in this struggle, but we also experience it within our own hearts on a daily basis. Living with the constant awareness that, without God in our story—even where we don’t see Him—we can do nothing of lasting meaning, substance, or durability is crucial. Our efforts alone will never produce lasting spiritual results, and those are the only ones that ultimately matter. No doubt we can contribute to lives, communities, and causes without God’s help, but one day, those contributions will prove to be meaningless. Nothing will last for eternity except God, His Word, and our souls. The world honors and celebrates visible achievements, and human accomplishments will receive accolades. However, the things that matter to God all stem from humility, born from the recognition that all good things come from above.
