“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.”

I believe this. I own the truth of these first six words with every ounce of my heart. However, if that’s true, why are there times I don’t live as if I completely believe them? Therein lies the rub. It is easy to say, and even believe, that I am confident in the infallibility of God’s Word. I find that in times of crisis, when life offers no answers, it is much easier to cling to the truth and power of God’s Word. When my wife was nearing the end of her battle with cancer, and I had done everything I could possibly do to find a solution, I had a moment with God where I literally cried out, owning my helplessness. In response, He reminded me that I had always been helpless, but as His children, both my wife and I were never hopeless. At that moment, I grasped for every verse that held a promise of His sovereign work in our journey. We sought out and clung to His promises of peace and presence. Conversely, when life is moving smoothly, I tend to rest in my own efforts and look to “circumstances” to just work themselves out. I do not always seek His leading, but instead, I move in whatever direction seems comfortable. Searching for God and His infallible truth is a shield I always need, even when I am unaware of it. Today, rest in His truth alone. #BeTheEdge
