One of my wife’s favorite books was Tapestry by Edith Schaeffer. Another great work of hers that may be particularly relevant today is Christianity is Jewish. However, in Tapestry, she expands on the truth Solomon addresses in this verse and others throughout the book of Proverbs: that God is ultimately working out His plan through everything that occurs in history and the future. The book title refers to God knitting a beautiful tapestry seen from heaven, while our earthly view may look like a chaotic mess of dangling, multicolored threads. It speaks to His sovereignty. Faith is when we live believing in the beautiful, orderly view of God rather than the confusing and jumbled mess of the world’s perspective. This belief allowed her, during a painful two-year cancer battle, to rest in the promises of her Heavenly Father, knowing that this was His battle, not hers. Watch the news, read the paper, or listen to the conversation of most leaders, and the jumble of details can become discouraging and at times overwhelming. But pick up God’s word, and even in the darkest moments, you see He has never lost control or been defeated—even when His Son was tortured and nailed to a tree. Today, find rest, peace, and power in His sovereign control. #BeTheEdge
