“With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk.”

Coming through a political season, this verse might be even more understandable. It speaks a truth about living in a world that plays fast and loose with the truth, perhaps more than ever before. So much so that many of those twisting the truth have begun to believe their own perceptions. One of the greatest gifts being a child of God offers is discernment. The dictionary defines discernment as “the ability to judge well.” It goes further by telling us that discernment from the Holy Spirit is “perception in the absence of judgment with a view to obtaining spiritual guidance and understanding.” This is the gift: we are able to pull truth from often disparate information through interpretation and prompting by God’s voice. If that sounds a bit supernatural, it’s because it is. This is a clear way of seeing God’s hand at work in our journey. There is no shortage of voices offering their version of “the truth.” I read today social media posts as well as news commentators promoting their perspectives. I also see major church leaders doing the same. Most of these voices grieve my spirit, as they’ve come to proclaim themselves smarter and more godly than everyone else. Today, read God’s words of truth and listen to His still, small voice. #BeTheEdge
