“As the heavens are high and the earth is deep, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.”

My graduate work was in Counseling Psychology. I learned early on that to believe we could ever completely understand the heart and motives of another person was foolish. Solomon is reminding us here that when we think we have someone and their motives figured out, we are not even close. Not even the individual fully understands the broken and tender places in their own story. The beauty in this verse is that, even though this truth applies to us as well, God knows everything. Nothing in our story escapes Him. The truly awe-inspiring thing about this truth is that, even knowing our deepest, darkest broken places, He loves us unconditionally. To prove it, when we were at our most hideous place of sin, it was at that very instant that Jesus died for us. Ponder that for a moment. When God created Adam, He knew full well what it would cost Him. He knew our sin would demand a perfect sacrifice—His one and only Son on a rugged cross. And He made Him anyway. Whatever battle you fight deep down, God is aware. And He loves you enough to give His Son’s life for yours. Today, reflect on that and celebrate. #BeTheEdge
