“The Lord works out everything to its proper end— even the wicked for a day of disaster.”

Read this again, especially the first half. In preparing for a memorial service this past weekend, I can’t tell you how many people told me that parents were never intended to bury a child. I certainly agree. As a matter of fact, in God’s original design, there was to be no death at all. But after sin entered the world, physical death became one of the consequences. Spiritual death, however, is an even greater and more heart-wrenching reality. As a “sovereigntist” who trusts God’s Word, I believe that when we lose someone to physical death, it is not good—but it is the exact moment it was intended to occur. Scripture tells us there is an appointed time for every person to die and transition into eternity. Age, life circumstances, and personal desires have absolutely no impact on that appointment. It is completely determined by God’s overarching plan, mobilized by His agape love. Romans 8 tells us that all things, including our final breath on earth, work together for the good of those who are His. That may not be our first choice, but in the grand scope of time, space, and eternity, it will be our deepest desire, God’s perfect will for our story, and ultimately our best. Today, recognize that He makes all things right and proper. #BeTheEdge
