“A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.”
Other than the gift from a wise man, Jesus never had wealth, gold or silver. He certainly did not possess “earthly” riches. Yet, He had the greatest name of all time. The dictionary definition of “esteemed” is “held in great respect; admired.” I cannot think of anyone who embodies this definition more than Him. Ok, so Jesus is all that, but what about the rest of us? Like you, I’ve known many men and women with great reputations. Some had wealth, and many didn’t. Solomon’s point is that your financial status is irrelevant when determining one’s real value and impact on the world for God’s Kingdom. My oldest son was always struggling to make ends meet for his family. He and his wife both had solid middle-class careers. Middle class is a tough place to be when it comes to paying bills these days. At his memorial celebration last week, it was overwhelming to see how many people had their lives impacted and changed by the gospel through his steady influence. He wasn’t flashy—although at times a bit eccentric—but God used him mightily. He left this planet with a powerful influence felt by hundreds, esteemed by many. Today, like Kevin did. follow Jesus’ example. #BeTheEdge
