“The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh—an inspired utterance. This man’s utterance to Ithiel: ‘I am weary, God, but I can prevail.’”

With the new year just a day away, the idea of starting strong, rested, and with a fresh wind at our backs is certainly appealing. I hope that describes your reality. However, a quick look at stress, anxiety, happiness, and weariness in American lives today shows that very few of us are reflected in that opening sentence. That is sad and not God’s desire for His people. Over 50% of us are anxious, stressed, and weary. Unlike the writer in this verse, most don’t feel that they will prevail and survive. The greatest cause of this condition is, by far, financial pressures. You don’t have to watch the news for long to hear about the strain caused by inflation and interest rates. Weariness is a very disheartening way to live. It brings on depression and loneliness. Again God does not want us to live this way. He has a plan. The new year is a perfect time to evaluate those things that cause stress. Mostly, it’s the time to ensure our walk with Him is what it should be. When it is, we find peace in the understanding that we live securely in His hands, regardless of what the world throws at us. Today, cling to Him. #BeTheEdge
