“Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.”
When offered help, I’m usually not impressed with the person whose typical response is, “Nah, I can do it myself.” It’s kind of like the “Hold my beer” guy. They don’t come off as particularly brilliant. Self-confidence that finds its source in knowing God as both the gift-giver and the one who informs us is powerful. Self-confidence based on the belief that we are capable on our own is foolish. We may pull it off on occasion, but as a formula for life, it puts us at odds with God’s plan to use us to point the lost world to Him. If we point them to ourselves, they will ultimately be let down and greatly disappointed—and that’s on our best day. Pointing our kids to God is our highest responsibility as parents. Pointing them to us and a godless self-sufficiency is almost evil. This really is a black-and-white situation. Certainly, we have degrees of obedience or walking in godly wisdom. But ultimately, when we get to our core beliefs and have to choose, we either trust ourselves or God. Today, walk fully in God’s wisdom. #BeTheEdge
