“Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.” Proverbs‬ ‭30‬:‭6

This has always been a check on my spirit when I speak or teach about the Bible. The older I become, the more cautious I am about making definitive statements regarding God’s thoughts and words on a situation or principle. The idea that I might get it wrong and misrepresent Him sends a shudder through me. This is why I make fewer firm statements about His mind and heart. I now stick to what I know for sure, which has become a shorter list over the years, and I frame everything else as my opinion on what I think He means. I also encourage, more than I used to, that anyone who hears me check out what I think for themselves. It used to hurt my feelings when someone disagreed with me. Now, it gives me comfort to know I’m safe to disagree with. God isn’t. Changing or adding to what He says is dangerous for all of us. If you want His rebuke and for Him to call you a liar, that is how you bring it about. Of course, no one does. The key is to share Scripture only as it’s written and in context. That’s a pretty good habit and strategy for influencing others. Today, carefully handle His words.#BeTheEdge
