“The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.”

You might read this verse and wonder why we should prepare for anything, since the ultimate outcome is always in God’s hands. It’s not an entirely bad question. However, in this verse, we see the warrior preparing his horse for battle. Nothing in Solomon’s lesson implies that this was wrong. It clearly is our responsibility to prepare what we need to live our daily lives in service to God. Not only are we to make sure we are putting on the full armor of God, as described in Ephesians, but we are also to live each moment in awareness and anticipation of the constant spiritual encounters we face. Could God win the battles if the soldier was not dressed or didn’t have his horse prepared? Of course, but that was not His plan. There is great obedience to be learned and purpose to be found in doing our part to be ready for God’s next assignment. Studying to be prepared to give a word for the hope we carry is important. Taking care of our physical selves so we can enter our tasks with energy and vigor is also valuable. Whatever God calls you to do may not always seem relevant to our current situation, but as we allow God to be God, we often simply prepare and walk in obedience. He directs our path. Today, prepare. #BeTheEdge
