“The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.”

One month ago today, we woke up to about 2 inches of snow blanketing everything. I live on 6 wooded acres, and my place looked like a Norman Rockwell painting (Google it, kids). Since this happens about once every decade here and lasts maybe 36 hours, our local governments have chosen not to invest in the snow and ice removal equipment that is essential in northern communities that deal with this weather all winter long. For the past 12 hours, social media has been full of stories about people sliding off roads, getting stuck in ditches, being in accidents, and more, because they were caught on the road after it iced over. We’ve had weather warnings for about a week to prepare for this brief time of inconvenience. Our family prepared, stayed off the roads, and played in the snow. I am aware of, and very grateful for, emergency staff and other vital workers who were not able to stay home and wait out the weather. I’m thankful for their employers who planned ahead and made arrangements for them to stay at their places of work. But, I am awed by those in ditches who thought the warnings weren’t for them and are now taxing the system. This is not a judgment, but it does reflect to some extent what Solomon is talking about in this verse. God warns us about the dangers we face when we don’t live by His truth. It’s amazing to see those who ignore Him and end up suffering as a result—then they blame Him. Today, listen to His warnings, they exist because He cares about you. #BeTheEdge
