“The wages of the righteous is life, but the earnings of the wicked are sin and death.”
When I was a teenager, there was nothing like payday. I loved opening the envelope and seeing that check. Yes, long ago, we actually received a check on payday. Solomon is letting us know what the righteous and the wicked earn. Ultimately, their payday is standing before the Creator as He declares what they will receive. The wages of the righteous create great anticipation in those who will receive eternal life. The wages of the wicked are heartbreaking. The writer of Romans chapter 6 tells us that the wages of sin is death. Thankfully, it is not up to us to earn eternal life. That, we are told, is a free gift. Jesus did the work for us. We are to faithfully walk in the works He has done on our behalf. He took our sin and wickedness upon Himself and gives us His reward in return. I love what I get to do for a living; I always have. However, I had to learn to see my job like this—where my responsibility is to walk into the good works He prepared beforehand for me. The wicked, on the other hand, own their work and receive the curse in return. Today, walk and live in the grace you have been given. #BeTheEdge
