“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
As you read this, I’m most likely in the midst of an 8-hour drive from Florida to Alabama. Before leaving, I am encouraged to have a safe trip, and then I pray as I get going for God to provide a safe journey. That prayer reflects a piece of the reality Solomon is sharing in this verse. I can plan everything possible to assure a safe journey, and I do. I even had new tires put on the truck and had the brakes checked before leaving. After doing all I can, I finally place my life into the hands of the Almighty and get underway. In every area of life, we plan and prepare as best we know how. In the end, every undertaking is ultimately in God’s hands. Fighting that truth only causes fear, anxiety, or foolishness. Whether we trust God to be sovereign or not, He is. That’s a powerful truth about the nature and character of God. He is who He is, regardless of our beliefs. There used to be a popular bumper sticker some Christians had that said, “God said it. I believe it. That settles it.” That’s incorrect. The truth is simply: God said it, that settles it. You see, who God is and how He operates is not dependent on anyone’s beliefs. It is time to recognize the goodness of the God of scripture, with His great track record, and live in the peace He brings. Today, let God be God. #BeTheEdge
