“The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.”
This expresses the classic understanding that when someone knows about a certain subject, they don’t need to prove it. An expert in their area of business does not have to talk extensively about it to prove their expertise. They simply do it. In a similar way, I have observed over the years that men and women of deep faith and understanding seldom drone on about it. They simply live it. Scripture definitely instructs us to always be ready to share the hope we have in God, but always being ready doesn’t mean always talking about it. In college, there was a group of Christians very diligent about the instruction to spread God’s truth. Too often, they would share with those who didn’t ask or weren’t really interested. They also didn’t take the time to get to know those they were intent on sharing with. Many times, they didn’t even bother to get the names of the people they were trying to evangelize. There is no doubt that we have a responsibility to consistently share the love of God and the need for salvation. As St. Augustine has been quoted as saying, “Preach the Gospel. When necessary, use words.” Today, speak calmly. #BeTheEdge
