“Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.”

I called a friend yesterday with an investment question. If you know me and investing, you know I need to call lots of friends and listen closely. The friend had an automatic response text that said, “In a meeting. I’ll call you when I’m done.” He called a short time later and said that he was sorry he missed my call, as he was in a training seminar on new software. After our call, I thought about that and realized I’m literally a decade or so behind on simple software tools. I don’t have the patience or desire to take the time to learn them. Consequently, I’m certain it has cost me hours of productivity because I was unaware of how to use resources that could expedite my tasks. The fact that at 82 years old, Rich is still a learner both challenged me and made me reflect on the truth Solomon shares in this verse. Multiply the loss of growth and wisdom we experience when what we ignore is not just useful knowledge of this world, but eternal truth from God in His Word and His great teachers. That is both sad and tragic. The laziness that would have us ignore learning more about God, who He is, and how He operates is something I believe we will regret for eternity. Today, look, listen, and learn about God and His creation. #BeTheEdge
