“A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.”
Mr. Willy died last week. I first knew him as Cowboy. I met him when he was out pulling weeds from my next-door neighbor’s strawberry field. He liked helping that way. He would often come to my front door and ask if he and a friend could fish in our little lake. He didn’t need to ask but he always did. We used to have him join our family meals at Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. He always showed up with fresh vegetables that he had gathered from the field across from our house (not his field). When my family caught fish in our little lake, they loved taking them to Mr. Willy in his rundown trailer. He had great stories and a sweet testimony. It seemed he was once married. His grandfather had a still on my little creek. It was a real challenge to understand him when he spoke. He had a mouth full of rotten teeth. They had all been pulled, and he waited for years for some artificial teeth, which he never grew very comfortable with. Willy was a good man. He had a kind and thoughtful heart. And he loved Jesus… freely. He never hid it. It would blow our mind to see him now. My son loved him too. Kevin is there with him and I know they are fishing and laughing together. When I’m gone, I would love to be remembered even half as fondly and sold out to our Savior as Mr. Willy. A good name has nothing to do with your wealth, status, possessions, or influence. It is about the fruit of the Holy Spirit’s presence in your journey. Today, reflect your Savior. #BeTheEdge
