“Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Whose hands have gathered up the wind? Who has wrapped up the waters in a cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is the name of his son? Surely you know!”
We know the answer. Agur is stressing the point that he, as well as all of us, are nothing when it comes to the magnificence of our Creator God. By comparison, we have not done and are not capable of doing anything that God did in an instant with the power of His spoken word alone. It is a challenge—or maybe an invitation—to ponder the greatness of God. It also reflects his depression at the realization of how potentially meaningless his life is compared to God’s. Thankfully, we are given the gift of affirmation by Jesus when He lets us know that we are of such great and precious value that even though Agur feels worthless next to Him, we know we have infinite value because of the price He paid to buy us back. We don’t ever need to feel the sense of worthlessness in comparison to God that the writer did. To be sure, apart from God, we are worthless, but once covered in His righteousness, we are invaluable. Today, live aware of your value. #BeTheEdge
